Import of chemicals for fuel adulteration: 9 arrests

Nine people have been arrested for importing chemicals from Bulgaria to falsify fuel.

A criminal case has been initiated against them on the fact of violation of the customs code and legislation on the functioning of the market for petroleum products and fuels and lubricants. Three more people are accused in the case, whose identities have been established, and they are wanted for arrest. The missing duties, taxes and other charges on the confiscated quantities alone amount to EUR 30,718.47.

As it became known, smugglers imported chemical reagents from Bulgaria, which were stored in a special container in the yard of one of the companies in Attica. They then loaded the solvents into a tanker and transported them to gas stations to be mixed with fuel on site. To mislead the authorities, the documents issued by them listed a “ghost” company in Thessaloniki as the destination.

As a result of investigations carried out at the enterprise and at the gas station, the following were found and confiscated: 29,301.50 liters of a mixture of solvents, a truck, a tank truck, mobile phones and documents.
