An inglorious end to a popular show "Radio Arvila"

New information has appeared in the Greek media about the early termination of some television programs, including Radio Arvila.

The popular satirical TV show has fired one of its four co-hosts after allegations surfaced that he shared intimate images of his ex-partner on porn sites. “Statis Panagiotopoulos is no longer part of Radio Arvyla”, – announced the presenter Antonis Kanakis in the next issue. “We’re sorry for the woman involved and what she went through,” he said, adding that his team is very sorry that “the person we’ve been working with all these years has done something like this.”

According to the contract, presenter Antonis Kanakis and his company will end this season on April 15th. And it is not known whether the channel will renew the contract or request an extension of the broadcast of the satirical program on the channel.

Recall that the show “Radio Arvila” began to air on April 14, 2008, from Monday to Friday at 17:45. Antonis Kanakis and Giannis Servetas played a key role, as well as co-hosts Christos Kiousis and Stathis Panagiotopoulos. The four wits remained on TV screens until 2021, when Stathis Panagiotopoulos was fired in disgrace, accused of a sexual crime (“revenge porn”).

The show satirized political news and more, and discussed various social issues such as the decriminalization of cannabis and police violence.

Dismissal of Panagiotopoulos

Earlier on Twitter, an anonymous post claimed that Panagiotopoulos posted intimate videos and photos of a former partner on a porn site, as a so-called “revenge porn” (legislation has been tightened in relation to such actions). The woman brought charges against the showman, the report said. The trial is scheduled for early 2022.

The host of the ANT1 TV show issued a statement condemning “clearly offensive behavior, actions and methods that offend human dignity and privacy.” ANT1 applauded the “quick response and determination shown by Antonis Kanakis, who took the decision to fire Statis Panagiotopoulos from the staff “Radio Arvyla” and “VINYLIO”, reports cathimerini and other mainstream media.

After the incident, the popularity of the show “Radio Arvila” faded away and now it seems that it will cease to exist altogether.

According to Reallife, the radio station has made the final decision to replace Antonis Kanakis’ company with the video game “Millionaire” returning to Greek television led by Grigoris Arnautoglu. According to the report, after several months of negotiations, the channel and the production company of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire have agreed to launch a video game mid-season with five episodes a week.

According to the information, filming will begin as early as next month, and according to the plan of the channel’s management, the first video game should take place immediately after the Easter holidays. The Millionaire show, which will replace Radio Arvila, is expected to be broadcast five times a week. The agreement with the ANT1 channel is currently entering the final stage of preparation.
