US President: “ISIS leader is dead”

Joe Biden said that US special forces, during an operation in northwestern Syria early Thursday morning (2/3), eliminated the leader of the Islamic State organization, Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Quraishi.

AP quotes Biden:

“Thanks to the ability and courage of our armed forces, we have driven Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Quraishi, the leader of ISIS, from the battlefield.”

The President of the United States said that all the Americans who took part in the operation returned safely. The special forces raid, Biden noted, targeted the leader of the Islamic State organization. He promised to make a more detailed report a little later.

The death of the ISIS leader is also reported by Aamaj News, posting a photo on Twitter.

The appointment of Abu al-Quraishi Ibrahim al-Qurayshi as the new leader of ISIS, after the death of Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi in Syria, was announced by the Islamist group in 2019, in October. At the time, the Islamic State vowed to avenge the death of its leader on the Telegram app: “Oh Muslims, oh Mujahideen, soldiers of the Islamic State (IS), we mourn the commander of the devout Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.”
