According to the Minister of Tourism, the first cruise ship is expected in Thessaloniki on February 5

The first cruise ship is expected in the port of Thessaloniki on February 5, Tourism Minister Vassilis Kikilias said on Wednesday. He predicted “a record arrival of cruise ships in 2022”.

“The arrival of the first cruise ship in early February indicates the expansion of the tourist season and the cruise industry, which is so important for northern Greece and is a strategic goal for the country,” the minister stressed. He added that “the improvement in the quality of the Greek tourism product is proceeding rapidly, with the modernization of facilities at the OLTH port in Thessaloniki.”

The Minister of Tourism announced that, in cooperation with the Ministry of Tourism, the check-in and handover of the luggage of travelers who depart from Macedonia Airport to the port will be organized by Fraport and OLTH. The same will happen with the baggage of cruise ship passengers who continue their journey from Macedonia Airport.

With such quality services and infrastructure upgrades, Greek tourism is improving and visitors to Thessaloniki will have more time to visit the city’s hotels, shops and restaurants, according to Mr. Kilikis.

In an interview with Skai TV on Thursday morning, Minister Kikilias talked about the “record arrival of cruise ships in 2022”. He elaborated that “we are talking about luxury cruise ships with passengers and tourists that leave a very high income. [?].

Speaking about the first cruise ship in Thessaloniki, he said that the number of cruises in northern Greece has increased by 50%, while Piraeus has registered a significant increase in the arrival of marine passenger ships. If 1 Viking Sky cruise ship arrives in Piraeus in February, then in March it will be 3, and in April their number will reach 32.
