EMY issued a severe weather bulletin, warning of rain, storms, snowfall and high winds from Tuesday through Thursday.
According to EMY (Greek meteorological service), the weather is expected to worsen from Tuesday noon (01-02-2022) to Thursday (03-02-2022), with the main characteristics of the cyclone that will come to Greece will be rain and storms , snowfalls – mainly in the central and northern mountainous regions of the country. Winds at sea will reach strengths of up to 8-9 on the Beaufort scale.
– On Tuesday
heavy rains and thunderstorms in some places will take place from noon in the Ionian Islands, in Epirus and the Western part of central Greece, in the afternoon in the Western Peloponnese and in the evening in Eastern Macedonia, Thrace and on the islands of the eastern Aegean Sea. Snowfalls will take place in Western Macedonia and in the mountainous / semi-mountainous regions of Epirus, gradually shifting to Central and Eastern Macedonia and Thrace. The seas will be dominated by stormy south/southwesterly winds, where they will reach strengths of 8 and possibly 9 on the Beaufort scale.
– On Wednesday
Local heavy rains and thunderstorms will continue in the above areas and will last from the morning hours in Thessaly, Sporades, Evia, eastern Sterea and temporarily in eastern Peloponnese. From noon, the consequences will extend to the Cyclades, Crete and Dodecanese.
Heavy snowfalls will occur in places in the mountains of the mainland, in the semi-mountains of central and northern Greece, as well as in areas with lower altitudes of Thrace. The weakening of the phenomena is expected in the northern Ionian Sea, Epirus and western Sterea at noon, and in Thessaly, Sporades and Evia at night.
Storm northerly winds will prevail in the Ionian Sea, where their maximum strength will locally reach 8 on the Beaufort scale, and in the southeastern part of the Aegean, southerly winds will continue to blow, with a force of 7 to 8 on the Beaufort scale.
– On Thursday
Heavy rains and thunderstorms in places will take place in Crete, the Cyclades, the islands of the eastern Aegean and the Dodecanese, and temporarily until noon in the eastern part of the mainland and the eastern Peloponnese. The effects will first weaken on the islands of the eastern Aegean and gradually towards night in other regions.
Heavy snowfall will occur in places in the mountains and foothills of the central and northern part of the country in the morning and in areas of Thrace at lower altitudes. The seas will be dominated by storm northerly winds, where their strength will reach 8-9 points on the Beaufort scale.
