Greece eases covid restrictions

Greece is easing some Covid-19 restrictions due to a recent decline in daily infections.

Health Minister Thanos Plevris announced this on Thursday at a daily briefing at the Ministry of Health, specifying that the closure of restaurants and clubs at midnight will be lifted, and the ban on music will be lifted, which will now be allowed again in restaurants, bars and clubs. However, restrictions on seated customers will remain in place, the minister said. The lifting of restrictions will come into effect on Monday, January 31, 2022.

Pleuris’s announcement followed a meeting of a committee of epidemiologists earlier in the day. The government told the press this morning that the restrictions would be lifted so that this sector of the economy could work as usual again.

However, according to exclusive information provided by healthreport.gr, many scientists have objected to the lifting of restrictions on restaurants and entertainment venues, stating that the decline in cases is due to a decrease in the number of tests due to “snow weekend”. However, a committee of experts accepted the proposal “under pressure from the government,” according to the Health* website.

The minister also announced that stadium restrictions would remain in place and would be reviewed again next week. The media reported in the morning that the allowable occupancy of stadiums is likely to be increased from 10% to 50%.

The minister added that the extension of the validity of the vaccination certificate is given due to bad weather, which prevented many people from getting vaccinated. The extension is valid from January 31 to February 7, 2022.

This measure was initially provided forthat the vaccination certificate will be valid for 7 months and that those who do not get a second shot will be considered unvaccinated. This means that they will not be allowed to enter the closed areas of restaurants, cafes, clubs and gyms. The measure was to take effect from 1st of Februarybut now it will apply from 8 February.
