Elpis froze fish in the sea

The mass death of fish was recorded in the Drepano lagoon, when the water temperature reached 0°C at about 6 am.

Bad weather brought snow, frost and many problems to Elpis. As mentioned in a tweet from the meteo.gr website of the National Observatory of Athens, it is estimated that around 370,000 fish of 12 species have died from the cold at a fish farm in Drepano Lagoon, in Thesprotia.

According to thespro.gr website, the only fish farm located here contained about 370,000 fish, most of which were found dead. It’s several tons. The head and employees of the fishery intend to ask for help from the authorities and the population in order to catch the dead fish, otherwise the bay is threatened with an ecological disaster.

The number of fish frozen to death and out of the fishery is unknown.

As noted, a similar phenomenon was recorded about ten years ago.
