The bishop of the Church of Greece, Metropolitan Seraphim of Piraeus, in his book assessed the intrusion of the Patriarchate of Constantinople into the church life of Ukraine.
A Russian translation of the book “The Ukrainian Church Question” by one of the most authoritative hierarchs of the Greek Orthodox Church, Metropolitan Seraphim of Piraeus, has been published. site doctorantura.ru.
The book contains articles written by Metropolitan Seraphim during 2018-2020 in response to events in the church life of Ukraine. These years were marked by the beginning of a crisis in inter-Orthodox relations, the cause of which was the invasion of the Patriarchate of Constantinople into the church life of Ukraine. The apogee of this illegal interference was the non-canonical granting by Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople of the “tomos of autocephaly” to a group of Ukrainian schismatics on January 6, 2019. In his publications, most of which are published in Russian for the first time, Metropolitan Seraphim assesses these tragic events for Ecumenical Orthodoxy.
In the preface to the book, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, chairman of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarch, emphasizes that “the Metropolitan of Piraeus unmistakably identifies the main nerve of the Ukrainian church issue, its most profound and painful component. This is a violation of the correct correlation of unity and catholicity in the Church – “inaction and distortion of catholicity.”
The publication prepared by the Poznanie Publishing House in cooperation with the Foundation for the Support of Christian Culture and Heritage is the second in a series of ten books dedicated to international and inter-Orthodox relations. Among the authors of the nearest publications are Metropolitan Daniil of Vidin (Bulgarian Orthodox Church), Bishop Anthony (Pantelić) of Moravich (Serbian Orthodox Church), Protopresbyter Anastassy Gotsopoulos (Orthodox Church of Greece) and others.
