Rospotrebnadzor experts have announced a particular danger of the Omicron strain for young children – from two to five years.
They report TASS that for the first time in children there are phenomena of bronchiolitis requiring hospitalization. Alexander Gorelov, Deputy Director of the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology (TsNIIE) of Rospotrebnadzor, says:
“Now we see that children are increasingly involved in the infectious process, especially dangerous (omicron) for young children from two to five years old. The disease occurs in them with damage to the upper respiratory tract and bronchi. For the first time, bronchiolitis phenomena that require hospitalization “Every third child has diarrhea.”
Gorelov also noted that people over 65 are still at risk. Concomitant diseases and advanced age can cause a severe course of the disease.
The specialist did not ignore the impact of coronavirus on pregnant women and children in the womb:
“In this case, he (the child) may experience a delay in the pace of neuropsychic and physical development. But this, fortunately, is a reversible situation, since the child’s body is plastic, and with proper rehabilitation this condition can be leveled.”
