Katehaki – Vouliagmenis in 5 minutes

A large-scale project that will significantly alter the urban “topography” of the basin to alleviate the ever-present transport problem of Attica is the extension of Kimi Avenue.

The new high-speed tunnel, an important project run by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, is expected to significantly improve and relieve traffic in the area.

The underground tunnel is very important for the municipality of Ilioupolis, as the unloading of the roads will enable the area to change significantly for the better. It will allow drivers to get from Katehaki Avenue to Vouliagmenis Avenue in just a few minutes, while currently it takes about half an hour or more on average.

The underground city tunnel will start from the Sakketa (Σακκέτα) military camps and end at Vouliagmenis Avenue, i.e. will function as a link between two large transport rings.

The plan for the aforementioned project speaks of an underground tunnel that will have a length of approximately 2.5 to just over three kilometers. It will start from Kesariani and, according to its specifications, will have three lanes in each direction.

One of the big changes that the tunnel will bring and which will affect Vouliagmenis Avenue is the removal of traffic lights and the transformation of the avenue into a highway. The prospectus is also planned to be expanded and improved.

The announcement of the start of the implementation of this large and important project is expected in 2022, and the start of the project is expected next.
