Florin earthquake at night (video)

Florina residents experienced a terrible Sunday-Monday night, following a 5.5 magnitude seismic quake at 11:43 PM followed by continuous tremors. Schools and kindergartens are closed there today.

Before midnight, there was an earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale in Florin – shallow, prolonged and accompanied by a hum. It was felt not only throughout the prefecture, but also in Macedonia and Thessaly. Several more followed the main impetus.

Seismic vibrations, except for the whole of northern Greece, were felt by the inhabitants of several countries – Bulgaria, Kosovo, Serbia, Montenegro, Macedonia, Albania. The epicenter of the earthquake was 7 km from the Greek city of Florina.

Kozan.gr reports that residents fled their homes and spent the night outside in low temperatures. According to preliminary information, there is no serious damage to buildings.

According to neaflorina.gr, the expected opening of schools in Florin today will not happen – all kindergartens and schools, primary and secondary, are closed by order of the mayor. The mayor of Prespa, Panagiotis Paschalidis, also announced the closure of educational institutions.
