Kazakhstan: shootout in Almaty lasted all night

The President of Kazakhstan speaks about the restoration of constitutional order. The Khabar 24 TV channel reports, referring to eyewitnesses, that the shootout in Alma-Ata lasted all night, there are casualties:

“Throughout the night, shots are heard in the city, which can still be heard in places … On Republic Square, a group of extremists barricaded the building of the MIR TV channel, there are victims. The bodies are lying right on the street.”

In Alma-Ata, unlike other cities, the situation has not yet returned to normal. The counter-terrorist operation is still ongoing. The President of Kazakhstan said that the constitutional order in the country has basically been restored in all regions. On Friday morning, Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev held a meeting of the counter-terrorism headquarters with the participation of the Security Council, the leadership of the presidential administration, and security forces. The press service of the head of state is quoted as saying:

“The anti-terror operation has begun. The law enforcement forces are working hard. Constitutional order has been largely restored in all regions of the country. Local authorities are in control.

TV channel “Khabar 24”, referring to the data of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, reported: law enforcement officers detained more than 3,000 people, 26 armed criminals were killed, 18 more were wounded. City halls and police station buildings were taken under control.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan reports that foreign embassies were not damaged during the riots. Aibek Smadiyarov, the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, assured RIA Novosti:

“Foreign embassies in Kazakhstan were not damaged during the riots, all diplomatic institutions are under heavy guard.”

Kazakhstani media reported today that over the past night, law enforcement officers prevented several attempts to import weapons into Nur-Sultan. According to Khabar-24, security officials stopped several buses, mostly with young people, from the southern regions of Kazakhstan. The passengers of the buses, according to the police, were unable to explain the purpose of their visit to the capital and were detained. The TV channel informs:

“The law enforcement officers are asked to reduce their movement as much as possible, especially between settlements.”

However, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan, as reported TASS, denies information about attempts to import weapons into the capital.

In the morning, intensive shooting resumed on the central square of Almaty, the correspondent reports. The peacekeeping contingent of the CSTO countries in Kazakhstan does not participate in military operations, it is responsible for covering and protecting state facilities, the first deputy head of the presidential administration of Kazakhstan, Dauren Abaev, told the Khabar-24 TV channel.
