In the age group over 60, the coronavirus vaccine is required. Starting from January 16, everyone who did not have time to make an appointment at least for the first appointment will face a monthly fine of 100 euros.
Government decision published in Government Gazette, with an indication of exceptions for those who, for health reasons, cannot be vaccinated. Stelios Petsas, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, explained today that the fine will apply after January 16.
The decision on compulsory vaccination of all over 50 years old has been left open so far. However, this issue is being discussed, and in the very near future a decision on it will be announced. Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said:
“People over 60 had to make an appointment before January 16 to take the first dose. Otherwise, an administrative fine of 100 euros will be imposed every month, and by law this money will be collected in a special fund for hospitals. “

The decision applies to all individuals who permanently reside in Greece and were born before December 31, 1961. They are subject to compulsory vaccination in accordance with the definitions of article 24 of law 4865/2021 (A ΄ 238), for which the restrictive grounds for exemption from vaccination, article 2, are observed.
ARTICLE 2. Reasons for exemption from vaccination against COVID-19
Individuals referred to in Article 1 are exempt from the mandatory vaccination measure against the COVID-19 coronavirus who, in accordance with Article 24 (2) of Law 4865/2021 (AD 238), have proven health reasons that prevent vaccination, in accordance with the joint by decision of the Minister and Deputy Minister of Health (Β ‘3794) in accordance with elements D1a / GP.oik.50933 / 13.8.2021, on a case-by-case basis.
Article 3. Competent authorities for exemption from vaccination against coronavirus
Vaccination waivers are the responsibility of the three-member committees for each medical district, as recommended by the decision of the governors or their legal deputies. They are made up of National Health System physicians specializing in internist, cardiologist and allergist. Committees may, at their discretion, seek and take into account the opinion of a competent physician if a specialist of the relevant specialty does not participate in the committee, such as a hematologist.
Vaccination waivers are requested exclusively through the treating physician to these committees, in accordance with their local jurisdiction in each medical district, to an email address that will be announced on each DYPE’s website.
The application includes the full identification of the applicant and the attending physician, namely: name, surname, social security registration number, email contact address for sending the decision to the competent health committee. The same application must indicate the date of the request for exemption and the reason for the exemption in accordance with Article 2 of this Agreement. The application must be accompanied by a medical certificate of release assistance with all the necessary information in accordance with the above, and any other relevant evidence must be brought to the attention of the committee in charge.
From the date of publication of this document, there is an exceptional ten (10) calendar day period for filing an exemption from compulsory vaccination for medical reasons with the competent health committees. Submissions will be responded to within an exceptional period of seven (7) calendar days from the date they are sent. The decision, which concerns only the necessary personal data, is immediately communicated electronically to both the applicant and the attending physician.
During the deadline for filing an application for exemption, as well as the deadline for a response from the competent health committee, the compulsory vaccination of applicants and the penalty are suspended.
All applications that do not indicate the reasons for exemption referred to in Article 2, or are not accompanied by the necessary supporting documents, must be rejected as inadmissible, and the decision to refuse must be promptly communicated to the applicant and the treating physician by e-mail. From the moment of notification of the decision to refuse, the applicant is subject to compulsory vaccination.
Positive decisions on exemption from vaccination are transmitted electronically and in accordance with the relevant and necessary technical and organizational security measures, as well as in the Societe anonyme under the name “ELECTRONIC SOCIAL SECURITY SOCIETE ANONYME SA”.
