Coronavirus: 43,386 new cases, 628 intubated, 62 deaths

The rapid spread of the Omicron mutation in the country is worrying the Greek authorities, especially since in the midst of this outbreak, an attempt is being made to safely reopen schools based on an updated protocol announced by the government, which some experts and the opposition consider insufficient.

At the same time, the burden on hospitals is increasing, as the epidemiological picture is getting worse every day.

Today, Wednesday January 5th, EODY announced 43,386 new infections and 62 deaths in 24 hours. At the same time, 628 patients remain intubated while new hospitalizations are “launched”.

New laboratory-confirmed cases reported in the last 24 hours are 43,386, of which 69 were identified after entry checks.

The total number of cases is 1,388,309 (daily change + 3.2%), of which 50.1% are men. Based on confirmed cases in the last 7 days, 326 cases are considered to be related to travel from abroad, and 1398 cases to a known case.

Rx in territory based on cases is estimated at 1.26 (95% DE: 1.06 – 1.47).

62 deaths of patients with COVID-19 have been announced, while a total of 21,115 deaths have been recorded since the start of the epidemic. 95.1% had an underlying disease and / or were 70 years of age or older.

The number of patients who underwent intubation was 628 (58.4% of men). Their average age is 64. 79.9% have an underlying disease and / or are 70 years of age or older. Among intubated patients, 532 (84.71%) were not vaccinated or partially vaccinated, and 96 (15.29%) were fully vaccinated. Since the start of the pandemic, 3,787 patients have been discharged from intensive care units.

641 new patients admitted to hospitals (daily change + 41.81%). On average, 462 patients were hospitalized in seven days.

Their average age is 36 years (from 0.2 to 106 years), and the average age of death is 78 years (from 0.2 to 106 years).

On January 4, another anti-record was recorded for the number of infected people in the world: +2 194 630 people. Most have contracted the omicron strain. At the same time, the number of deaths tends to decrease in comparison with previous months. In particular, on January 4, this figure was 7244 people, and 45 510 deaths per week. Which is 3% less than a week earlier.

The total number of people infected with coronavirus since the beginning of the pandemic (as of January 5, 18:00) in the world was 295,952,209, the number of deaths was 5,477,062.

At the same time, the burden on hospitals is increasing, as the epidemiological picture is getting worse every day.
