Entrepreneur and conspiracy theorist, far-right politician and member of the US House of Representatives from Georgia, supporter of former US President Donald Trump, controversial Marjorie Taylor Green is forever blocked on Twitter.
The reason is repeated violations of the rules regarding disinformation about Covid-19. Her actions fall under the system on Twitter that identifies messages about coronavirus that can cause harm. Before that, it was temporarily blocked four times, which had no effect, so now the company has taken drastic measures. A Green spokesman was quick to say the ban proved the company was “America’s enemy.”
In her lengthy statement, which the 47-year-old politician posted on Telegram, she accused Twitter of helping unidentified enemies in the “communist revolution” and stated:
“Social media platforms cannot stop the spread of the truth everywhere.”
The account lockdown was taken after Marjorie Taylor Green spread false news on Saturday about “an extremely high number of Covid vaccine deaths” in the US.
Twitter spokesman as reported Air force, stated that Green’s account was banned for “repeated” violations of his coronavirus disinformation policy. Before introducing a permanent ban, four temporary blocks with different periods are allowed.
The fourth came in August, following a politician’s statement that coronavirus vaccines “don’t work” and a call on regulators to disapprove of new vaccines. A spokesperson for the giant social network says:
“We have made it clear that, in accordance with our system for this policy, we will permanently block accounts for repeated violations of it.”
Since 2020, since her election, Green has become one of Washington’s most controversial politicians. She has actively supported former US President Donald Trump, his unsubstantiated claims of rigging the 2020 presidential election, and has been linked to the QAnon conspiracy theory in the past.
Amid unprecedented U.S. efforts to contain the coronavirus, which has killed 825,000 people to date, it has strongly opposed measures aimed at tackling covid.
The politician often questioned the effectiveness of the vaccines used and was regularly fined for refusing to follow Covid guidelines in Congress, including over wearing masks in the House of Representatives.
In her Telegram account, Green posted a screenshot with a message from Facebook that her account was blocked there too, albeit for 24 hours, since her publication “contradicts the standards of disinformation”:
“Facebook is now censoring me with Twitter. It goes beyond censoring speech. Who put Facebook and Twitter in charge of determining what is (truthful) information and misinformation?”
According to the New York Times, the social network removed a post in which Green questioned measures to stop the spread of coronavirus – wearing masks, testing, mandatory vaccinations.
