The Ministry of Digital Government has asked municipalities for information on 2,500 points, open or closed public places, where it is planned that residents will have free access to the Internet.
In a letter from the Minister of State of the Digital Government Kyriakos Pierrakakis and Deputy Minister Todoris Livaniou, sent to 332 municipalities in the country, it was proposed to determine by January 15, 2022, points for the installation of antennas and transmission equipment in order to put wireless Internet access points into operation in the near future.
Reportedly, the project of the Ministry of Digital Government “WiFi4GR – Development of public points of wireless broadband Internet access “is entering the final stage of implementation, which will provide broadband access to the network via Wi-Fi points in public places, outdoors and / or indoors.
It is estimated that around 2,500 Wi-Fi wireless hotspots will be deployed across the country. They will be located in places of high population concentration, for example:
in public gathering places; in waiting areas (train stations); at venues for events; in the areas of tourist and cultural recreation; at sports facilities.
