Covid records in Europe

In some countries of the European Union, the coronavirus sets unthinkable records, sharply increasing the number of infected every day.

Over the past 24 hours, 208,000 new cases have been reported in France. Experts believe that at the beginning of next month this figure will reach 300,000. The sharp increase in the number of infected causes concern among experts in Portugal and Denmark.

The World Health Organization is calling for equitable distribution of vaccines and vaccine coverage for 70% of the world’s population by mid-2022. WHO Director-General Tedros Adanom Ghebreyesus says:

I am very worried that the omicron, being more contagious, spreading at the same time as the delta, is causing a tsunami of disease. This continues to place tremendous pressure on emaciated medical professionals and puts healthcare systems on the brink of collapse.

Karl Lauterbach, Minister of Health of Germany, is sure that not all new cases of coronavirus are reflected in daily reports – the real number of infected is much higher:

The underreporting is probably such that the actual incidence is now twice or three times higher than recorded. There is also a significant increase in the incidence of omicron, and this is of concern to us.

Greece introduced ahead of schedule new restrictionswhich were previously scheduled for January as on Tuesday more than 21,000 new cases were identified, and yesterday, Wednesday, 28,828.

In Spain, a sharp increase in the number of infected is also recorded – almost 100,000 per day. However, the time of self-isolation for those infected was reduced from 10 to 7 days – the authorities fear that otherwise soon there will simply be no one to work …
