“Until recently, almost nothing was known about this Transcarpathian Athos ascetic. It was also not known what he looked like. Therefore, when I was asked to write a book about him on Athos in 2017, I first wanted to refuse due to lack of information and sources However, gradually, as a result of persistent searches in the archives of the Sacred Kinot of Athos, Panteleimonovsky and other monasteries of Athos, it was possible to find both photographs and many documents certifying his ascetic life. “The Athonite Elder from Transcarpathia. Hieroskhimonakh Avakum (Vakarov) and his time: 1899-1972”, prepared by S. Shumilo together with Y. Danilets, P. Gaidenko and M. Shkarovsky. ascetic entitled “Elder Avvakum of Mount Athos.
