The number of cases of the Omicron mutation is growing rapidly, a fact that worries experts as they anticipate another outbreak in the coming days.
“Perhaps on Tuesday or Wednesday we will see numbers over 9,000, and maybe from 15 to 20 January we will see much more, from 15,000 to 20,000 cases,” said Nikos Tsanakis, a professor of pulmonology on the OPEN channel.
Attica has seen an explosion of cases as 15,000 cases have been reported since the start of the week. Increase within a week is characteristic. So, in 4 days the number of cases from 3689 (December 20) doubled and reached 7665 cases on December 24!
The situation in the intensive care units of hospitals in Northern Greece remains “stifling”, the national health system is seriously overwhelmed.
“Today I have nowhere to place patients if they were admitted to us with or without coronavirus, that is, the hospital beds are 100% full,” says Nikos Karavelos, commenting on the dramatic situation in the intensive care unit of the πποκράτειο hospital in Thessaloniki.
Let us remind you that today, on Monday, December 27, an expert commission will meet to reevaluate the situation and propose new measures to the government.
