8 seniors die from Covid-19 at Patras nursing home

In recent days, eight elderly people have died from complications related to COVID-19 in a nursing home in Patras, in the western Peloponnese. Of the 8 who died, seven were not vaccinated.

Two more people in the same house have died from causes other than coronavirus, although they have also tested positive for Covid-19, Lieutenant Governor of Achaia Charalambos Bonanos said on Tuesday.

Vaccinations for residents of nursing homes is not mandatory, but has been mandatory for employees since last August, according to media reports. Bonanos claims that the control showed that the personnel were indeed vaccinated and registered in the relevant state system.

The lieutenant governor added that an investigation into a specific and well-known nursing home is ongoing, and efforts are underway to identify the source of the infection that triggered the outbreak. The authorities are also investigating whether a health record was kept in the register.
