Tsipras reiterates call for early elections

The leader of the main opposition left SYRIZA, Alexis Tsipras, reiterated his call for early elections on Monday, saying the New Democracy’s conservative government has failed to tackle the coronavirus pandemic and the price hikes.

Speaking Monday at a conference on digitalization, Tsipras said public confidence in the conservative government had been irreparably eroded by a failure to respond to the “double challenge” posed by Covid-19 and inflation.

“Protecting human lives and social cohesion should be top priorities at this point,” Tsipras said, adding that giving conservatives more time in power “carries a risk” for the country.

Saturday, during the 2022 budget debate and research Tsiodras-Litras On the deaths of coronavirus patients outside intensive care units, former Prime Minister Tsipras has called for the resignation of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

Tsipras’s calls for Mitsotakis’ resignation began last Thursday when the former prime minister accused the current prime minister is lying in parliament.

Mitsotakis, whose New Democracy Party maintains a strong lead in opinion polls, has repeatedly dismissed early voting suggestions, saying elections will take place at the end of his four-year term in 2023.

Government spokesman Yannis Ikonomou stated Thursday afternoon that the prime minister was unaware of the study, as were none of his close associates, although co-investigator Theodore Litras saidthat they informed the political leadership in May.

However, Iconomu did not bother to reveal, or probably did not consider it necessary to do so, who was aware of the study and whether the person resigned or was removed from his post as prime minister. And Tsiodras, for his part, apparently after a call from the prime minister’s administration, began to play up, statingthat he is saddened by the fact that scientific analysis has become the subject of political controversy.
