The US Congress passed the Defense and Interparliamentary Partnership Act between the US and Greece, paving the way for Greece to purchase F-35 fighters in the future. The move was welcomed by the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and the Greek Foreign Ministry.

The US should, if necessary, support the sale of F-35 aircraft to Greece. Greece is a pillar of stability at EastMed, and the United States must remain committed to supporting its security and prosperity. The United States must intensify and deepen its efforts to partner and support the modernization of the Greek military. Congress believes that the President has the right to expedite the delivery of any future F-35 aircraft to Greece, as soon as the country is ready to move forward with such a purchase on the terms the President may require. A naval partnership with Greece in Souda and Alexandroupoli bays is mutually beneficial to the national security of the United States and Greece.
The Greek Foreign Ministry tweeted:
We welcome tdy’s adoption of the US-Greece Defense & Inter-Parliamentary Partnership Act, which recognizes ?? ‘s strategic importance as a pillar of stability in the region, ??’ s commitment to ?? ‘s security & prosperity and the paramount importance of the ?? & ?? strategic partnership

We welcome the adoption of the US-Greece Defense and Interparliamentary Partnership Act, which recognizes strategic importance as a foundation for regional stability, a commitment to security and prosperity, and the paramount importance of strategic partnership.
It is worth noting that US sales of the F-35 are not doing very well. Following Turkey, the United States refused to sell this model. India… The reason is the same – Russian S-400s.
Greece has already ordered 5th generation Rafale aircraft from France and recently upgraded its F-16 fleet to the Viper version, but apparently the military felt that this was not enough. In addition, Greece is actively renewing its Navy, acquiring 8 warships from France.
A similar arms race has already affected the national debt, which has increased by 10% over the past year, and this is against the backdrop of a sharp drop in GDP due to covid restrictions.
