Justice Department: Stronger Penalties for Revenge Porn

It is reported that the Ministry of Justice is considering the possibility of toughening legislation on crimes related to the illegal distribution and circulation of confidential data about the personal life of citizens via the Internet or by other means.

After it became known about the incident, which shocked public opinion, in connection with the activities of the presenter Statis Panagiotopoulos of Radio Arvylas, who published photos and videos of his ex-girlfriend’s personal moments, the Ministry of Justice decided to classify such an act as a serious crime, and , as a result, to toughen the sentence under this article.

According to the same sources, revenge porn will be considered as an aggravating circumstance when the action is directed against minors in the context of the general protection of them and socially vulnerable groups, for whom it is believed that the protection should be strengthened, and the punishment of the perpetrators should be more severe.

The current legislation regarding this offense, except in some cases, pursues the degree of misconduct. And criminal prosecution requires the initiative of the victim, that is, filing a claim, as was done in the case of Statis Panagiotopoulos, against whom the victim filed a lawsuit two years ago. The case is expected to be heard in mid-February, as it was delayed due to the fact that the courts were not working during the restrictive measures due to the pandemic.
