Lithuania is ready to pay migrants

Lithuania is escorting migrants from Belarus who have been denied asylum on favorable terms – with a thousand euros for “minor expenses” and a free ticket home.

Al Arabia quotes the statement of Agne Bilotaite, Minister of the Interior of Lithuania:

“After most of the asylum applications have been rejected, we must decide how to return migrants to the countries from where they came to us. We hope that this amount will increase the number of those who want to leave Lithuania voluntarily. “

So far, only 54 out of 3272 asylum applications from migrants crossing the Lithuanian-Belarusian border have received government approval. Almost 9,000 people did not make it to the country thanks to the efforts of the border guards.

Since the beginning of summer Lithuania registered 5 times more requests for asylum than in the entire 2020. In the first half of this year, almost 2,000 illegal immigrants were detained at the Belarusian-Lithuanian border. This is 22 times more than in the entire last year. The reason lies in the position of the Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, who, in response to European sanctions, announced in May that the country will no longer be a barrier for illegal immigrants on the way to the European Union.

Earlier, Peter Siyarto, head of the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, made a statement about the failure of migration policy The European Union for the successful integration of refugees into European society.
