The President of South Africa affected by the Omicron strain has contracted the coronavirus. The press service of the 69-year-old South African president reports that Cyril Ramaphosa has transferred his powers to the country’s vice president, David Mabuse.
Ramaphosa returned from his West African tour and took part in an event in Cape Town. After that, he felt unwell, passed the test for Covid-19 several times and received a positive result. Members of his delegation who accompanied the head of state on the trip also received negative test results. The South African presidential administration reports:
“President Cyril Ramaphosa is receiving treatment for mild Covid-19 symptoms after testing positive for the viral infection today, Sunday.”
The report says that he is in “good spirits” and is under the supervision of representatives of the military medical service of the South African defense forces. The sick Ramaphosa underwent a full course of vaccination.
