If compulsory vaccination were introduced for everyone over 50, “we would live in a much safer environment in our country,” President of the Panhellenic Medical Association Athanasios Exadaktylos emphasized on SKAI today.
Especially for the new mutation, he noted that there are still no definitive answers to the main questions that have arisen, but: “We all agree that, whoever Omicron is, it is better to be vaccinated than unvaccinated.”
Among other things, Mr. Exadaktylos highlighted the importance of the third dose of the vaccine, as it provides protection to even a small percentage of citizens who did not receive the vaccine with the first two doses. He called on all citizens to take a step and get vaccinated, taking into account winter, omicron and the uncertainties created by the new mutation.
Recall that the decision on compulsory vaccination for people over 60 years old, and in case of violation – monthly fines caused disagreements between the constitutionalists. According to some professors of constitutional law, this measure is justified by considerations of protecting the health of the population, since, in addition, this is an escalation of already adopted measures…
However, other lawyers argue that the imposition of an administrative fine is not constitutional, since it violates key articles of the Constitution that define the right of each person to their own body.
Both sides seem to find it problematic to impose a penalty horizontally without considering other, and even repetitive, criteria that could affect the standard of living of many thousands of Greeks.

For 8 express tests (cost from 5 euros to 10 euros each) the amount is 40 or 80 euros. An administrative fine for non-vaccination is 100 euros.
That is, every unvaccinated employee over 60 years old will have to pay from 140 to 180 euros monthly. For 8 express tests per year, unvaccinated workers will pay from 480 to 960 euros. Combined with the administrative fine, the truly unbearable costs that older workers who have not received the coronavirus vaccine have to pay range from € 1,680 to € 2,160 per year!
