Third dose: more than 193,000 appointments recorded in the first hours of platform opening

Citizens rush to make an appointment at the vaccination center for the third (booster) vaccination. The electronic platform opened on Friday 3.12.21 in the evening.

From the moment the platform opened until this morning, according to information from protothema, more than 193,000 applicants have been registered. It is worth noting that during the same period, 8300 receptions of citizens were held, who came to make the first dose of the vaccine. On Saturday morning, December 4, 43,000 vaccinations were registered.

The National Vaccine Committee has given the green light to reduce the timeframe from 6 to 3 months for a second dose of the coronavirus vaccine. The committee took the data into account to arrive at an appropriate decision. On the one hand, there is the risk posed by the cold season, as well as the already tense epidemiological picture in the country and the emergence of the Omicron strain. On the other hand, the positive results of research in Israel to strengthen the collective immunity of the population after the booster (third) dose.

“We also need to build a strong immune wall for the Omicron variant. There can be no question of shortening the vaccine protection time. The third dose provides excellent immunity. This benefits the vaccinated people themselves, and therefore the country, ”explains Distinguished Professor of Pediatrics and Member of the National Vaccination Committee Georgios Chrusos.

According to the information, the members of the commission assessed the data concerning both the cases and the time of illness of those who were vaccinated. Evidence confirms that older and vulnerable people are less protected from coronavirus four to five months after vaccination. Those who have given the 1-dose vaccine (Johnson & Johnson) also have reduced protection.
