Reagents were imported from Bulgaria to dilute fuel at gas stations

A powerful blow to the criminal organization, whose members were engaged in the supply and import of special chemicals from Bulgaria to mix them with fuel, was dealt by Greek law enforcement agencies.

Six members of the criminal group were arrested by the Directorate of the Economic Police of Northern Greece. A criminal case has been opened against them. Another person was brought to justice for the creation of a criminal organization and violation of the National Customs Code and legislation on organizing the supply of fuel materials. Missing taxes, duties and other charges are estimated at € 26,932.

During the police investigation, it was established that since September 2021, a group of criminals has been supplying organic solvents through two companies based in Bulgaria. The combustible materials were delivered to a warehouse in the Northern Greece area, the “solvents” were mixed with fuel in special tanks, and then the mixture was transferred to a tanker. The final diluted mixture was sent to a filling station.

The police operation to dismantle the criminal scheme took place on Monday 29 November 2021, with the assistance of the competent chemical service and the customs office of Northern Greece. The perpetrators were caught red-handed as they poured the mixture from the tanker into the fuel storage tanks of the gas station.

During the subsequent investigation, the following were found and seized:

26,100 liters of undocumented fuel, tanker truck and diluted fuel; chemical mixing tanks and other equipment.
