In Israel, victims of domestic violence were “revived” and sent a warning to other women.
Artificial intelligence technology has helped “revive” the five murdered women so that their voices can be heard by potential victims. One of them, looking directly into the lens, says:
“I was Michal Sela. In 2019, I was killed by the man who was my husband, Eliran Malul. And today, after I lost my life, I appeal to you: hear my voice. “
The shivering videos are part of an education campaign in Israel that revives murdered women to warn others to protect themselves from abusive relationships. They are created from photographs of the victims before their death using special technology that “gives them life.” Voices are voiced by the actors. The initiative was launched on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women by the creator of D-ID.
Among the women of Sela, who was 32 years old, when in 2019, right in front of her daughter, her husband stabbed her to death. He was convicted of murder last month. Lily Ben Ami, the sister of the murdered woman, says that when she saw Sela, she was “speechless and burst into tears”. In a statement to the TV channel, Lily notes:
The goal of the campaign is to create “a vaccine against the violence that attacks us from all sides.”
From the screens, the “revived” Sela calls on all women to seek help if they are in a relationship with someone jealous and obsessive:
“If you’re afraid of his reaction to divorce, share with a loved one and a domestic violence professional who can help you break up safely and get back to your normal life.”
The Israeli Ministry of Social Security reports that the number of complaints of abuse has increased by 10% this year compared to 2020.
