Russia: mine accident killed 57 people, injured 63 and are in hospitals

According to the latest data, 51 miners and 6 rescuers were killed in a fire at the Russian Listvyazhnaya mine in Kuzbass. Another 63 victims are in hospitals, of which 5 are mine rescuers.

So far, only three dead have been raised to the surface, RIA Novosti reports, citing a rescue service representative. Yesterday morning, November 25, smoke started at a mine in Belovo, Kemerovo Region. Of the 285 underground miners, most of them were raised to the surface. Rescuers went to help the rest, but they were recalled due to the threat of an explosion.

Deputy Minister of Health of the Kemerovo Region Vitaly Kheraskov informs:

The injured 11 mine rescuers who were hospitalized are in a state of mild and moderate severity. There are no serious patients among them. The dynamics of all mine rescuers for this morning is positive, they are all conscious, in contact. We have no fears for their lives. At 10 a.m. (06:00 Moscow time) today, we have 63 people who applied for medical help after an emergency, 13 of them were prescribed outpatient treatment, the rest of the patients were hospitalized in four hospitals of Kuzbass

According to preliminary data, reports TASS, the explosion of methane was the cause of the fire. The region has declared a 3-day mourning period. The SDS-Ugol holding, which owns the Listvyazhnaya mine, will provide assistance to the families of the victims and the injured. The press service of the Emergencies Ministry reports the words of Chupriyan, the acting head of the Russian Emergencies Ministry:

“We grieve immensely for the dead miners and rescuers. This is a huge tragedy for the whole country and for the EMERCOM of Russia.
