The Church of Greece calls for help from the Greek police

The Metropolitanate of Phocis called on the Greek police to check how the anti-coronavirus rules set by the government are observed in the churches.

They explain that appeal caused by the failure to fully comply with the restrictions by many parishes and priests, according to the publication “Romfei”. The Hierarch of the Greek Orthodox Church, Metropolitan Theokistos (Klukinas), of Phokides, addressed the law enforcement agencies of Greece.

The metropolitan sent a letter to the head of the regional police department, where he called for an inspection of the churches and monasteries of the diocese. The reason for this step is explained by Archimandrite Nektarios (Mulatsiotis), Protosingell of the Metropolitanate. He complained that some of the priests of the diocese were on the verge of death:

“Some of us were hospitalized at St. Andrew’s Hospital in Patras in serious condition due to the fact that some people inside the churches did not comply with quarantine measures.”

Archimandrite Nektarios said that Metropolitan Theoktist had previously sent circulars to the parishes urging them to observe quarantine measures, “however, again, some were not disciplined in moderation.”
