A doctor-hematologist of the highest category talks about the dangerous manifestation of postcoid syndrome – a violation of blood clotting. This complication can manifest itself several months after the illness, causing a stroke or thrombosis.
Diana Kim, hematologist at the Avicenna Medical Center, approvesthat even young people who have been asymptomatic or mildly ill with COVID-19 are not immune from an abnormal increase in blood density:
“I had young patients who had a mild coronavirus infection, but after three months they had a thrombosis. In particular, one of them had a stroke. That is, even those who had a mild COVID-19 infection are not protected from post-viral, post-clotting thrombus formation “.
In the high-risk area – having problems with blood vessels:
“Thrombus formation is always dangerous, but it all depends on where the blood clot formed. If it happened in the brain, there will be a stroke. Depending on the brain region, it can be either a fatal stroke or with minimal consequences.”
The doctor says that anticoagulants can help to thin the blood, but warns:
“It is believed that after a coronavirus infection, anticoagulant therapy should be continued for three months. This prevents blood clots. However, you do not need to prescribe anticoagulants yourself.
