All catering closed tomorrow: 24-hour strike

Catering establishments across the country are closing tomorrow, Tuesday November 16, in response to new measures introduced to tackle the coronavirus pandemic.

In a statement, the Panhellenic Federation of Restaurateurs and Allied Professions (Πανελλήνια Ομοσπονδία Εστιατορικών & Συναφών Επαγγελμάτων, ΠΟΕΣΕ) indicates that thousands of jobs are currently under threat from the government catering industry, and the government is under threat, and

“The situation is catastrophic. Locking factories and job losses (numerous layoffs of workers in the sector) are not far off. On Tuesday, November 16, we join forces and close catering establishments throughout Greece for 24 hours. On the same day, we will hand over a resolution to the Prime Minister in Megaron Maximu Palace, 12:00 Respecting public health, we call on the government to provide us with sustainable support measures so that we and our thousands of employees can survive, ”notes ΠΟΕΣΕ.

The requirements of catering workers specified in the document are as follows:

Regulation of fines and violations. Change of a refundable deposit to a non-refundable one. Participation in decision-making by competent committees. Energy cost regulation and rental subsidies. Employer Contribution Benefits or Suspension of Employment Agreements. Exemption from paying municipal fees. Reduced VAT up to 6%. Continuation of subsidizing loan installments. New funding, similar to funding for 2020 and early 2021.

In addition, ΠΟΕΣΕ proposes to create a special secretariat or chamber of catering workers and regulate labor costs with special provisions of labor legislation, which currently (as they are) do not take into account the high intensity of additional industry costs (night, evening, holidays , weekends).

On the side of the catering establishments, all the workers’ unions that work with them: agricultural and livestock unions, bakers, DJs. They all support the November 16 strike, which, as promised, will not go unnoticed.
