Greek Herbs in Espresso Capsules – Award Winning Startup Idea

The Athens Chamber of Commerce has awarded some of the most innovative startups. Among them – “12 Gods”, the main team of which is scientists – agronomists, chemists and lawyers. Start up cooperates with farmers from Evros to Crete and Samos to Epirus. The collected herbs are packaged in the most original way: in espresso capsules.

The SNFCC, the cultural center of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation, hosted an event at the Athens Chamber of Commerce. At the ceremony, leaders and innovators were presented with awards for sustainable, innovative and quality entrepreneurship. Startup “12 GODS” received the “Best Innovative Business of the Year” award in the presence of the President of the Republic Katerina Sakellaropulu and numerous officials – ministers, deputies, major businessmen.

Greek Herbs in Espresso Capsules

Clinical evidence suggests that a premium product does indeed perform as claimed and may even reduce the risk of chronic disease. The health claims represent the verified labels found on the product. The quality is determined by the Executive Decision 2013/63 of the European Commission.

The innovation of the product, in addition to shortened preparation times and health claims, also lies in the composition of the capsule itself. It is significant that about sixty billion plastic or aluminum capsules are produced annually, with incalculable consequences for the environment. Greek innovators have come up with another solution to today’s problems: biodegradable capsules. According to the manufacturers, they are completely biodegradable within 23 weeks after the product is consumed.

In addition, herbal infusion in capsules is practical and convenient. Thanks to Greek innovations, dozens of herbal varieties, such as hibiscus, louise, cardamom, chamomile, nettle, are “served” in a cup in a few seconds, at the touch of a button.

The young company “12Gods” was inspired by the writings of Hippocrates, Dioscorides and Galen, who are believed to have discovered the beneficial properties of herbs, giving them the names of twelve gods.

The end result – the development, certification and release of a unique product for sale – required the hard work of a team of specialists for three years. The culmination of the effort, in addition to the award, one of which was awarded by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, was negotiations with the “giants” of the global retail trade.
