Chania airport “flooded” with tourists: Germans, Danes, Swedes

Passenger traffic at Ioannis Daskalogiannis Airport in Chania demonstrated a significant increase in the first ten months of 2021 compared to the corresponding period in 2020.

According to official data from Fraport, 1,696,139 passengers passed through the airport in the first ten months of 2021, up from 684,204 travelers in 2020, an increase of 147.9%. According to the same data, in October 2021, 309,390 passengers were served at the airport, compared with 85,068 in the corresponding month of 2020. The increase was 263.7%.

International flights in the same month received 250,014 passengers compared to 53,926 last year, an increase of 363.6%. On domestic flights – 59,376 passengers compared to 31,142, an increase of 90.7%.

In October 2021, 15,013 flights were operated at Ioannis Daskalogiannis Airport compared to 6,911 in October 2020, an increase of 117.2%. The first five passengers in October included passengers from Germany, Denmark, Great Britain, Sweden and Poland.
