Coast Guard official arrested for issuing certificates for ships in exchange for bribes

A Coast Guard officer and a private individual were arrested after an internal investigation into licensing boats and yachts without the necessary supporting documents for a bribe, the Citizens Protection Ministry said on Friday.

Investigators found and confiscated 14 stamps with the names of companies selling outboards and marine products, books of accounts, blank certificates and licenses for various purposes, a laptop and a gas pistol.

They also obtained photocopies of certificates for 57 vessels issued by a corrupt official.

The detainee was taken to a competent prosecutor.
