The body of 29-year-old activist and women’s rights activist, economics teacher Frozan Safi, who disappeared on October 20, was identified in Afghanistan today.
As a result of many gunshot wounds, her face was mutilated, and it was only today that the woman could be identified by her clothes. The guardian… Her body was all this time in the morgue of the city of Mazar-i-Sharif.
This is the first known death of a women’s rights defender since the Taliban took over the country about three months ago. The sister of the deceased says: “We recognized her by her clothes. Bullets hurt her face.”
There are so many bullet wounds on the activist’s body, she says, that they are difficult to count. After death, the bag and the wedding ring of the deceased disappeared. The Guardian reports that the bodies of Frozan Safi and another unidentified victim were delivered by the Taliban. Their representative, Zabihullah Nurani, says that the bodies of two men were next to the dead women. He made the assumption that the cause of the deaths may have been “personal enmity”.
