From 2022, we will have drugs against the coronavirus, Health Minister Thanos Pleuris said today.
Speaking today on SKAI, the Minister of Health stressed that the government has an amendment to allow the import of medicines, even if it has not received final approval.
One part of the drugs is monoclonal, and the other is pills, which will be available from 2022. A committee was appointed to define the criteria, which, he explained, would evaluate accordingly.
According to news4health.gr, the government has launched a “big race” to overcome obstacles and avoid significant delays in delivering the first quantities of molnupiravir, MSD (known as Merck in the US) to our country.
Recently, Deputy Minister of Health Mina Gaga also stated: “We have already shown interest in the drug market as a whole for the whole of Europe. [и] see if we can import the drugs ourselves. “
However, it all depends on the speed with which the principle of covid treatment is approved by the European Medicines Agency (EMA). According to News4Health, the Ministry of Health has initiated procedures by contacting all stakeholders to be able to take advantage of the opportunity for a bilateral agreement.
In particular, it is required that the procedures are agreed on time, and our country was ready to immediately conclude a bilateral agreement with the company, which will allow it to quickly receive the first batches of antiviral treatment in Greece.
According to the news4health.gr report, if all goes well, Greece could receive the first treatment drugs to be used by COVID-19 patients in 4-8 weeks from the day molnupiravir was approved.
