France: attempted coup prevented

The General Directorate of Internal Security of France announced the prevention of a coup attempt. The change of power in the country, according to the investigation, was planned by Remy Daye, a former deputy of the Democratic Movement party.

The plans of his supporters were the seizure of the parliament building, the Elysee Palace and the Ministry of the Interior, reports Le parisien… At the head of the conspiracy was a detainee on suspicion of organizing attacks on vaccination centers Remy Daye.

Investigating the connections of the former deputy, investigators concluded that Daye had created a “terrorist community” with a network of branches throughout France. It included both active and retired military, police and gendarmerie officers. The correspondence of the conspiracy participants, which was carefully checked and analyzed by investigators, helped to identify 36 “captains” responsible for a certain region.

The seizure of government agencies, including the Ministry of the Armed Forces and a TV channel for broadcasting propaganda, was planned to be carried out with the help of explosives. The plan was named “Operation Azure”.

At the end of last year, while hiding in Malaysia from the French police on charges of kidnapping an 8-year-old girl, Daye called for the overthrow of the existing government. In April of this year, the ex-deputy sent messages to some French parliamentarians, where he pointed out that “the republic is no longer the dominant idea, the hour of reckoning has come.” One of the recipients appealed to the prosecutor’s office, on the basis of which the investigation began.

However, attorney Jean-Christophe Basson Larbi, who took on the defense of the former MP, denies any accusations of Daiet’s terrorism. He claims that his client called for “the peaceful and popular overthrow of the existing political system in the exercise of his freedom of expression and conscience.”
