If you are over 18 years old, you are a citizen of Europe and want to discover the “old world” and its culture, this is your chance.
The idea of giving young people free tickets was first proposed during the European Youth Event (EYE) in 2014 and, thanks to the support of MEPs, 70,000 young people aged 18 have been able to visit the European Union since June 2018.
As an exception, young people aged 19 or even 20 who were eligible in 2020 (during the lockdown period when movement of citizens was restricted due to the coronavirus pandemic) can also apply this year.
About the program “Discover the EU” (“Ανακαλύψτε την ΕΕ”)
Online applications will be available from 12 October 2021 at 12:00 CET until 26 October 2021 at 12:00 CET.
Offer valid for European citizens born between July 1, 2001 and December 31, 2003.
Participants will be able to travel for up to 30 days in at least one EU country, between 1 March 2022 and 28 February 2023.
To be eligible, candidates must complete a short multiple-choice quiz about Europe.
Travel will be carried out mainly by train, but also by bus and ferries. Flights will be allowed in exceptional cases when there is no other mode of transport (for example, people arriving from very remote regions).
Participants of the program, persons with disabilities and / or special needs may be selected for additional assistance (for example, the cost of a companion or a guide dog for the visually impaired).

European Parliament support
The European Parliament strongly supports the idea of free train tickets for 18-year-old Europeans with three resolutions supporting the initiative. They believe that this initiative will allow young people to experience the diversity of countries, understand each other and learn more about Europe.
The MPs believe that by encouraging young European citizens to travel to the EU and meet people from other countries, they will strengthen their European identity and the common human values of the EU.
