Two coast guard officers were injured as a result of an intrusion by a group of unidentified persons into the premises of the Merchant Marine Academy in Kefalonia. I had to shoot.
On Tuesday evening, a group of about two dozen thugs, in hoods and with hidden masks, entered the territory of the academy and moved to the student dormitories. They were all armed with sticks, some with stones.
The head of the academy and the officer of LS-EL.AKT, acting to protect the students, demanded to leave the area. The militant group seemed to retreat and began to move away, but unexpectedly returned again and tried to enter the premises of the educational institution. When the head of the academy tried to stop them, the guys attacked, hit him and knocked him to the ground.
Then they attacked a member of the service. Trying to stop the raging warriors and provide assistance to the commander, he fired several warning shots into the air, according to the coast guard. Only after that did the attackers retreat and then fled.
After the arrival of EL.AS personnel on the scene, both victims were taken to Kefalonia General Hospital. After being examined and given first aid, they left the medical facility.
None of the 62 students who were in the hostel at that time were injured. There was no material damage, only the territory was covered with sticks and stones. An investigation is underway. It is not yet clear who and for what purpose invaded the territory of the academy.
