The strike of tram drivers in Athens will take place on Friday from 10 pm until the end of the shift. In a statement, the union protested, saying their concerns about meeting minimum safety standards were not addressed by the transport authorities.
The union said that tram drivers (tram drivers) have been supporting the services for the past 2.5 years with their own “inhuman efforts.”
Statement by the Athens Tram Operators Union (ΣΗΤΑ):
“For 2.5 years now, the drivers of electric tram trains have been making superhuman efforts every day to carry out their work with the minimum permissible safety margin.
Despite repeated letters of protest, extrajudicial interruptions, interruptions in work, unfortunately, even today there are no visible improvements in the tram line network on the issue of New Telematics.
After the last action that we took, in the context of solving the problem (public dialogue with ΣΤΑΣΥ * in the organization of mediation and arbitration and the suspension of work on June 10, 2021) recognition by the STASY management of the seriousness of the problem, a proposal from the company for an additional temporary loan, but without providing significant solutions to solve the problem, the Board. ΣΗΤΑ decided to stop working with a 4 hour warning on Friday 15.10.2021 from 22:00. until the end of the work and additionally raise the issue of following the legal path through the lawyers of the Association.
