A 35-year-old man from Greece was arrested in Thessaloniki, wanted in France on charges of involvement in drug trafficking.
The accused was involved in an international sailing ship of 1.7 tons of cocaine from Latin America to the coastal zone of southern France. French authorities were awaiting a European arrest warrant, according to Greek police.
The transfer of a certain amount of cocaine took place in June 2017, and eleven people of different nationalities, including Greeks, were arrested in this case. Investigations by the French authorities showed that the same criminal group attempted to smuggle large quantities of cocaine into France in the same way between 2016 and 2018.
According to the relevant police statement, the 35-year-old’s role was associated with “recruiting people” to transport drugs by sea. In doing so, he was allegedly associated with one of the leading leaders of the drug trafficking scheme.
The wanted person was found and arrested on Tuesday afternoon (05.10) by police from the special department, after cooperation with the police services of the European level. He was taken to the Thessaloniki Prosecutor’s Office of Appeal to initiate an extradition case.
