From October 11, the distribution of free 50 GB “Freedom Pass: data” for mobile devices is expected to begin among teenagers who received the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine. How do I get this package?
At a press conference on the specialization of measures presented by Minister of State and Digital Government Kyriakos Pierrakakis and Deputy Ministers of Digital Government Georgios Georgantas and Todoris Libanios, details of the Freedom Pass: data package were announced.
That is, about the possibility of obtaining and the features of the “Freedom Pass: data” package. Mr. Pierrakakis informed that this is a 50 GB package for free use of the Internet, which is addressed to every young person aged 15 to 17 who has taken at least the first or only dose of the vaccine. It is valid for 5 months from the date of activation, and every month you can use up to 10 GB.
The application for the package must be made by a parent or guardian and sent either electronically via emvolio.gov.gr/freedompass, or in KEP, indicating the phone number to which the package will be credited. Submission of applications for participation in the program will begin on October 11, 2021, and the service will be activated the next day. This initiative will be implemented by the Information Society (IS SA), a supervised body of the Ministry of Digital Government.
Kyriakos Pierrakakis provided data for the applications that were approved for the first version of the Freedom Pass, that is, for a € 150 digital debit card for persons between the ages of 18 and 25. In particular, he said that to date, more than 370,000 applications have been approved, noting that vaccination coverage in this age group is 52%, while at the time of the announcement of the initiative it was about 13%.
Regarding the cancellation / reduction of mobile communication fees, the Minister of State and the Digital Government explained that their cancellation is provided for persons aged 15 to 29 years old, and their reduction to 10% for individuals over 30 years old, starting from January 1, 2022. He also clarified that the initiative applies to all connections, whether contractual or prepaid.
Cancellation of mobile charges between the ages of 15 and 29 will require registration with the Register of Applications for Beneficiaries of Mobile Telephony Exemptions, which is administered by the General Secretariat of Public Administration Information Systems. Only one phone number can be claimed for each person, and in case of transfer, the discount will be transferred to the next provider.
He then explained that for those over 30, the discount will be made automatically in their account, without any action on their part. As shown by the data presented, the benefit of the measure varies depending on the invoice amount from 2% to 10% for each monthly invoice and for all consumers, individuals or companies.
