The United Nations has announced a timeline for universal vaccination.
The UN says that until every inhabitant of the planet is vaccinated, there is no need to talk about the safety of humanity. Abdullah Shahid, the new President of the UN General Assembly, said on Tuesday during a briefing on the sidelines of the 76th session of the General Assembly:
“I’m going to do everything in the power of the UNGA Chairperson to make sure we can achieve our goal of vaccinating every single person by the end of 2022. We can’t be safe until everyone is protected.”
He is convinced that the world community must take all possible measures in order to vaccinate every inhabitant of the planet against coronavirus. The Chairman of the Civil Society plans to organize a high-level meeting at the beginning of the new year, with the participation of leading world leaders and experts, to discuss the issue of vaccine inequality.
Yesterday, September 14, the jubilee 75th session ended and the 76th session of the UN General Assembly opened. New UNGA Chairperson Abdullah Shahid (Maldives) took over from Volkan Bozkir (Turkey), stating that the session will focus on poverty and climate change.
During his speech at the opening of the 76th session of the General Assembly, Antonio Guterres, UN Secretary General, called on the world to end wars and unite against a common enemy – a pandemic:
“The pandemic continues to sow death and deprive people of their livelihood and hope for the future. These problems are exacerbated by rising inequality – the division between rich and poor. There are those who take basic services – food, water in the home, affordable medicine – for granted, and those for whom the essentials remain a pipe dream. ”
