The Prime Ministers of Greece, Cyprus, Italy, Spain and Malta, as well as the French President, will meet in Athens on September 17 for the EU-Med7 Summit, which will focus on issues affecting the Eastern Mediterranean, the climate crisis, civilian protection and development in Afghanistan.
The summit will also be attended by the Prime Ministers of Slovenia and Croatia, who will attend for the first time, while Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio Costa will not be present as his country is holding municipal and regional elections.
Kyriakos Mitsotakis will welcome Emmanuel Macron, Nikos Anastasiadis, Pedro Sánchez, Mario Draghi, Robert Abel, Janez Jans and Andrei Plenkovic. The event will take place at the Stavros Niarchos Cultural Center.
Some observers attribute Macron’s visit to the fact that Greece is increasing its order of Rafale aircraft manufactured by Dassault from 18 to 24.
In total, Greece will pay France 2.5 billion euros for these 18 Rafale aircraft.
