According to the Gr Times, the operation to find the climber, organized early on Sunday 5 September on Mount Olympus, in the Messorachi area, ended in tragedy.
An unfortunate 72-year-old man who was climbing, probably lost his balance and fell off a cliff. The authorities were immediately informed that the firefighters and a three-man rescue team from the Greek rescue team arrived at the scene.
Descending into the gorge, they found a man with no signs of life.
Zafeiris Trompakas, the commander of the Greek rescue team, told APE-MPE, “Other climbers who had halted saw a man stumble on the trail and fall into an abyss. Eyewitnesses immediately notified the competent authorities of the incident. “
The man’s body will be taken by rescue workers to the clinic, where a medical examination will establish the cause of the climber’s death.
