Arrest of a 76-year-old man for the rape of a domestic helper

An older man was arrested in Patras on charges of raping a 60-year-old domestic helper who regularly came to his house to clean up, clean and cook.

According to the Peloponnese newspaper, the pensioner was arrested on Tuesday after a woman filed a complaint with the police, accusing the old man of rape. The victim reported the incident on Monday 30 August and, in the context of investigating the crime, the police arrested a “unbelted” prominent businessman, who was a 76-year-old man.

In Greece, there are frequent cases of violence against domestic helpers. Mostly they are foreigners. Perhaps that is why the local Greeks, insulting their sexual dignity, think that this “does not count”, or that the intimidated victim will not contact the police (this was the case before, when foreign women did not have documents for work or even a residence permit).

As one of the witnesses, who rushed to the aid of the victim of violence when she managed to free herself, told ANT1, “while a woman in an apartment building was cleaning the elevator, a man left his apartment, grabbed her and dragged her inside, where he held from 10 to 16 hours “.

He said: “I saw a woman who was very upset, beaten and scared, and she was begging for help. She told me: “Help, save me.” Pointing to the man who was next to her, she said: “He raped and beat me.”

“We took her away, took her to the apartment opposite and called the police,” a witness to the incident said, adding that there was a possibility that there was a second person in the apartment who took part in the abuse of the unfortunate victim of violence. A neighbor noted that the woman had “bruises and beatings.” After the victim was taken to the hospital, it turned out that she also had a broken rib.
