Deputy Minister of the Digital Government of Greece Georgios Georgantas spoke about the progress of vaccination in the country.
“At the beginning of August, the number of records for vaccinations decreased. Unfortunately, this was expected, although we tried to convince people that, regardless of the holidays, it is possible to get vaccinated. That only a few have done, ”Mr. Georgantas said on SKAI.
The deputy minister said that “now there is a strong activity, citizens began to apply to the appropriate points to set the time and day of vaccination.”
From Monday 16 August until the evening of Monday 23 August, 106,000 young citizens of all ages signed up for a vaccination center. Just yesterday, 26,000 appointments were registered at vaccination centers in order to get vaccinated. These figures are quite satisfactory. “In September we will have a lot of new vaccinations,” the deputy minister said.
“The vaccination rate has now increased”
Answering a question about herd immunity, the expert said that he was very optimistic, since the level of vaccination has now increased and the number of cases still needs to be calculated. “Together we have to convince someone from our inner circle to go and get vaccinated,” said Mr. Georgantas.
He also stated that “out of 6,200 who requested vaccinations at home, 5,050 have already been vaccinated,” and regarding the third dose, the specialist noted that “this is the right step, which was also well received abroad”.
The deputy minister said the vaccination rate for ages 18-24 is still low, but the Freedom Pass has been beneficial. Judging by the available data, 310 thousand of our young fellow citizens activated it and were vaccinated.
