Opinion: "Robbers wear masks, not Christians"

In the monastery of St. Paraskeva in Eordea, the abbot, Elder Maxim, placed the inscription: “It is forbidden to wear a mask inside the Holy Monastery” and “Masks are worn by robbers, not Christians.”

In an interview with the Live News of the MEGA channel, Gerontas Maximos (Γέροντας Μάξιμος) claims that he does not urge believers not to wear a mask outside the church, but only inside the monastery, because there “the laws of the church are in force”: “Until the door of the church, the laws of the state apply. And behind the doors, in the church, are the laws of the church, ”he says.

In addition, the abbot says: “Whether or not you pray in a mask depends on whether the Almighty will hear you. If you are asked if you are vaccinated, answer that “I will not become a guinea pig!”

Metropolitan Florinsky, Prespes and Eordea – Theoklitos, in an interview with Live News, outlined the position of the official church regarding what the rector of Kozani, Gerontas Maximos, is doing and saying.

As Theoklitos notes, this is an old monastery founded by the decision of the Holy Synod and the minister. Thus, it is a legal entity of public law and is “governed by the diocese, the Holy Synod and the state.”

“Now there are two monks, Father Maximos and Father Ignatius. Maximos was the abbot, but he and his companion, Father Ignatius, were removed. For my part, I took appropriate measures, spoke “in an amicable way”, but this, apparently, had no effect. I was forced to dismiss Father Maximos, who was appointed abbot, and Father Ignatius. I waited for them to repent and return to their posts (…), and they continue to say such things, speaking out against everything that the official church, the Holy Synod, the Patriarchate say. “
